Meet Elly McConnell, Porter McConnell, and Claire McConnell

Mitch McConnell, the senior United States Senator from Kentucky, has three children with his first wife, Sherrill Redmon. Their names are Elly, Porter, and Claire McConnell.

Elly McConnell is the eldest of three children and was born in 1972. She graduated from Smith College in Massachusetts and later attended the University of Kentucky College of Law.

After law school, Elly worked as a judicial law clerk and then as an associate attorney at two law firms in Louisville, Kentucky.

She now serves as a senior counsel for the Majority Leader’s office in the United States Senate, where her father serves as the Republican leader.

Porter McConnell, Mitch McConnell’s only son, was born in 1976. He graduated from the University of Virginia and later earned a master’s degree in public policy from Duke University.

Porter worked for several years as a policy advisor to the Democratic National Committee and then as a senior policy advisor for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

He currently serves as the executive director of the Partnership for a Secure America, a nonpartisan organization that works to advance bipartisan foreign and national security policies.

Claire McConnell, the youngest of the McConnell children, was born in 1983. She graduated from the University of Richmond and then earned a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago.

Claire worked as a research analyst for the United States Senate and then as a policy analyst for the Environmental Defense Fund. She currently serves as the chief of staff for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
